Gina Hakim

Graduate Student

Gina Hakim is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine. Her research focuses on environmental governance and infrastructure innovation.

Her current research focuses on the partnerships between residents of Urequío, Michoacán, Mexico,  and former residents who migrated to Wilmington, CA in the cross-broder stewardship of potable water infrastructure. To support this project, she built the Urequío Infrastructure Archive on the Disaster-STS-Network.  She has presented this project at the Society for Applied Anthropology Annual Meeting and the Emergency Management Disaster Science Working Paper Series at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her research has been supported by the Wenner Gren Foundation Dissertation Fieldwork Grant  (July 2021-2022).

Gina is a member of the Teaching Team for UCI Anthropology 25A, Environmental Injustice, a large, general education course that extends from EcoGovLab research.

Gina has an MA in Near Eastern Studies from New York University and a BA in History with a minor in Political Science from the University of Southern California.
